Ewa Axelrad

born 1984 in Gliwice, Poland,
lives and works in London, UK.

Ewa Axelrad is an author of installations, objects, photography and video art. Her works tend to be site-specific interventions.

The work Zadyma from the series Plague has been constructed from police riot shields. The handles fixed on both sides of the shields make it impossible to state decisively whether it is the police or the demonstrators that are on the defensive. Such ambivalence is a characteristic of the entire project Plague, related to the perception of social protests as a spreading virus, accompanied by identifying sections of society as healthy or sick and controlling them accordingly.
