Krzysztof Maniak

born 1990 in Tuchów, Poland,
lives and works in Tuchów, Poland.

Krzysztof Maniak works with video, photography, performance. His work relies on actions in the landscape, such as creating paths in the fields or building structures with twigs.

The four-part video installation Untitled (Time and Space) documents the artist’s actions performed in the vicinity of Tuchów. Each series of actions is linked to one of the seasons. Maniak has created a subtle, meditative work of art without an audience, based on simple gestures and interaction with nature: stroking moss, tree bark or snow, climbing a tree, trying to find the length of the artist’s body between two trees. Short, looped sequences are reminiscent of the 1960s and 70s performances, transposed to the unusual scenery of a Polish backwater.

Part of the graduation work from the Faculty of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (under the supervision of Bogdan Achimescu, PhD).
