Krzysztof Mężyk is a painter. He refers to his artistic practice as qualia, a term which denotes subjective, ineffable sensual perceptions as experienced by a person.
In the diptych, the artist has employed a palette of warm colours. He has placed a structure of flat forms on an open-composition background, executed with bold, dynamic brushwork. Mężyk’s works are abstract, sensual and concentrated on the matter itself, manifested by such means as distinctive texture, with individual paintings as a material record of when they were produced. Despite the impression of pure expression and the focus on the painterly gesture, the artist’s trademark is the precise, deliberate structure.
