Łukasz Jastrubczak

Łukasz Jastrubczak refers to mythologised 20th-century art, both the avant-garde and some outsider, non-institutionalised art. The eponymous protagonist of the film 1913/Edmund Monsiel is a self-taught artist from the Zamojszczyzna region, whose obsessive drawings, created in secrecy and abundant with religious content, were only discovered posthumously, in 1962. Jastrubczak visited Wożuczyna, Monsiel’s home village, where by chance he met the artist’s heirs in the cemetery. Apart from the record of his journey, Jastrubczak presents a selection of Monsiel’s original drawings. The project dovetails with the surrealism prevalent in recent art.
