Gizela Mickiewicz

live and work in .

The works of Mickiewicz have as their point of reference relations between people and objects as well as the ways in which we re- member through the tangible things that surround us and how we modify our identity and emotions living amongst, and sometimes, for, things. The artist applies force to the mundane ready-mades, testing their durability or arranging them into compositions on the verge of experiencing a fall. Withdrawing Your Gaze to the Foreground is a modified window shutter, partly bent and broken. The object has connotations of peeping; however, the gaze of the viewer stops on the wall. The object is what it is; it does not turn into a window that would refer us to the background
